Roulette

The term "Roulette-Gambling" is derived from a French word meaning small RULETTEwheel. The origin is not very clear. While some sources state that Blaise Pascal, a 17th Century French mathematician invented the wheel, other sources state that the game originated in China and was brought to Europe by Dominican monks who were trading with the Chinese. During the late 18th century these wheel became very popular when Prince Charles (ruler of Monaco at the time) introduced gambling to Monacco as a way of alleviating the financial problems of the region. However, the modern version of the these wheel did not appear until 1842 when Frenchmen Francois and Louis Blanc invented the single "0" game. The game was eventually brought to America in the early 1800s. However, the single "0" modification was rejected in America and the two zeros "00" where returned to the game wheel. The R0LETTE wheel gained a great deal of popularity in America during the California Gold Rush.

The principle of this game is very easy for all people to grasp, in fact many people who will never gamble in their lives know how it works. A white ball is spun around the rim of the R0ULETTE wheel as the carousel turns in the other direction. When the ball runs out of steam it rolls down the sloping sides of the rulete wheel's base and collides with the metal frame of the carousel. The carousel is divided up into 37 slots that are labelled with numbers from 0 to 36. The ball eventually comes to rest in one of the slots and the number of that slot is the winning number.

The winning number has several properties which may affect bets placed on the roullette table layout. Unless it is Zero, it will either be High or Low, Red or Black, Odd or Even. It will also be in a particular Dozen and Column.

As you can see from the rolette layout to the left, the numbers on the rouletee wheel are displayed in this regular form on the table which is almost identical where ever you are in the world. You notice that there is more to bet on than just numbers.

In order to place a bet you must first exchange cash money (from your wallet) or cash plaques obtained from some sort of cash transfer mechanism at the cash desk, for coloured special chips. This you do at the table you want to play at and no where else. The chips will all be worth the same amount each, for example, £1.

Now you are ready to play. When the dealer says, "place your bets", you put your chips where ever you like. You have until a few moments before the ball drops into the next winning number to complete your betting. You will be warned by the dealer as they announce, "no more bets please".

When you finish playing you have to exchange any remaining coloured chips that you have for cash chips at the table at which you are playing. These cash chips can be changed for real cash at the cash desk.

The House Advantage

Nearly all online casinos have just one zero. Don't play on two zero tables because the house advantage gains significantly. However, assuming you are playing a single zero table then the house advantage is 2.7%. This is reduced with most casinos (but not all) if you play outside the numbers area (ie. red/black, odds/evens, and high/low). In this case when zero drops in you only lose half your stake, the other half is returned to you. Or sometimes you will neither win nor lose and your stake is left on the table for you to do with as you please.

These rulette rules cut the casino advantage in half and so there is only a 1.35% house advantage.
